Why direct-injection engines need it

Modern direct-injection engines spray fuel directly into the cylinder rather than across the back of the intake valve. That means the intake valves never get washed clean by the fuel, and carbon builds up over time. The result is rough idle, lost throttle response and worse economy.

An engine carbon clean uses either hydrogen, specialist chemistry or walnut shell media blasting to remove that build-up and restore the engine's natural feel.
